- Frontera de Salud — Created by UTMB students in 1997; conducts rotations for students in impoverished Cameron Park colonia near Brownsville

- International rotations for medical students — Enables medical students to witness first-hand the barriers to care imposed by poverty; rotations take place around the globe
- Community Health pilot focuses on managing chronic diseases in unsponsored patients in Galveston, establishing a medical home, providing disease education, setting patient self-management goals, and directing patients to appropriate care settings
- 3-Share Program pilot currently providing health insurance to more than 400 Galveston County workers not previously covered; premiums are made affordable by cost-sharing among employee, employer, and UTMB philanthropic and institutional resources
- East Texas Area Health Education Center, headquartered at UTMB, seeks to improve health by recruiting people into health careers, supporting professional growth of existing health professionals, providing health education to promote healthy behaviors and maximizing local health resources: www.utmb.edu/chs/outreach/AHEC.html
- Serves 111 counties through nine regional operations
